Laurie Halse Anderson was born on October 23rd 1961 in small town Potsdam, New York. Her father was a Methodist minister that spent much of his free time writing Poetry. She first decided that she wanted to be a writer in second grade when her teacher, did a poetry unit, and had the students write Haiku poems and as a young child, she spent most of her time reading historical fiction books in her school/ public library. Throughout her teenage years, she enjoyed reading science fiction and fantasy. As she grew into an adult she found herself spending a majority of her time writing books. Fear of Falling, Fever and Speak are just a few of the many well known novels that she has written. However, Laurie didn’t plan on being an author for a career, at one point she wanted to be a doctor or a free lance reporter. Anderson believed in putting real life problems into many of her stories, in order to get some of her beliefs across. The one thing, however, that she wants more then anything in the world, was world peace. All and all, Laurie Halse Anderson is a well known, well respected author whose stories and novels are well worth the read.
